about

"UMHLABA OPHEZULU" album is a dynamic transcendent offering of the soul healing itself. Journeying through soundscape, just like walking in the veld headed for the highest point there is - based on the high and low rhythms and traditions of the land of myth and magic.

The 11 track offerring treads on spirituality, cultural diversity, pandemic, national building and mental health amongst many other conversations. A cross cultural collaboration of nostalgic African roots rhythms and chants alongside contemporary and classic interpretations of indigenous stories and sounds.

This was achieved through an Artist residency in the unspoiled and ancient landscape of the Karoo, Eastern Cape. The residency was supported and funded by the Ivanya Yethu Heritage Foundation and the National Arts Council of South Africa.

Proceeds of the album will go to raise awareness and funds for Ivanya Yethu Heritage Foundation’s #ArtsAccess4All campaign. An initiative which seeks to bridge the gap between arts, access to technology and marginalized youth in rural communities.
